Addiction Recovery Group

High on Jesus is a total life change program that is for people that struggle with addictions to drugs or alcohol & that are sick of living an average life.

Our main goal is to help people to not only be sober, but to have true joy, true peace, and to be successful in anything they want to do in life through seeking Jesus and with the help of the 12 Steps program. All are welcome; you don’t have to be an addict/alcoholic to attend.

It’s easy to think being sober is impossible, that it’s not even worth trying. It’s easy to get stuck in the rut of life & think there’s nothing better than this I’ll just try to survive until the end. My friends, you can achieve anything you want in life. “If you can Believe”!!!!!

Family Connections Recovery Ministry

Family Addiction Support Group

Safe Harbor is the first of four components comprising our new Family Connections Recovery Ministry.

Safe Harbor is a faith-based support group whose purpose is to help family members struggling with the impact of a loved one’s addiction.  This group will explore not only the medical and treatment issues surrounding this disease but also how God’s grace can be called upon to help them through what might be the most difficult time of their lives. This caring, supportive and strictly confidential group  meets weekly at First Church.  Tuesdays at 6:30 PM in Fellowship Hall.

The 2nd component is Empowerment Through Knowledge, a partnership with the Suncoast Institute on Chemical Dependency to help us educate our families and others in the community as to the facts regarding the disease of addiction.

Straight Talk
Delivered with Grace

The 3rd component of the Family Connections Ministry is Straight Talk, Delivered with Grace. Have you noticed that sometimes a little straight talk is what is needed?  Bold, bare bones, straight talk.
Larry Sears has committed himself to be the ‘sounding board’ when such an opportunity presents itself in this ministry.  Larry, an individual recovering through hard work, meticulous introspection and the grace of God, will make himself available to individuals and their addicted loved ones should they request his insight. Having experienced the fracture of his own family brought about by his behaviors and the effort needed to rebuild trust, his experience can be invaluable to a family member wondering why his loved one “won’t just stop” or an active addict who doesn’t believe recovery and God’s grace is available to him. These conversations will be held outside the boundaries of the Safe Harbor group meeting.

The 4th and final component of the Family Connections Ministry is a  Christian life skills support group program for children of alcoholics and addictsThe curriculum is divided by age group and includes topics such as communication skills, feelings, anger management, getting help and staying safe, boundaries, friendships with safe  people, personal uniqueness and others.  Session summary sheets will be given to the parents so they know what their children are learning in each session.  The target date for kick off for this program is mid-October.
